Betty C. Murdock
APRIL 16, 1928 – FEBRUARY 26, 2023

Betty Ann (Carroll) Murdock, age 94, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2023 in Houston, Texas surrounded by loved ones.

Betty Ann Carroll was born on April 16, 1928 to Walter and Verlin Carroll in Decatur, Georgia. She met her future husband E.C. (Ed) Murdock, Jr. while they were both attending the University of Georgia and where Betty was both a cheerleader and vocalist for one of the university's big bands. Betty and E.C. were married in Athens, Georgia in 1948 and made their home in Houston, raising three loving children. Betty will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Betty's outgoing nature brought joy to everyone she met. Her time at the University of Georgia and her career as an educator were perfect venues for her love of people and her ability to make anyone she met feel special. Betty's magnetic personality touched the lives of countless students, teachers and administrators over her 33 years in education. She considered the highlight of her career to be the 13 years that she spent as principal of Killough Middle School in Alief, Texas. Teachers and staff from her years at Killough continued to honor Betty with birthday celebrations into her late 80's. Yet as much as they loved her, she loved all of them even more.

A born leader and performer, Betty enjoyed nothing more than times playing "school" with her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and also putting on impromptu dance and acting performances whenever the mood struck her (which was often). Betty loved playing golf with her family and friends and equally enjoyed following every Houston sporting team. Last but not least, Betty was a wonderful cook and took great delight in spoiling guests with amazing dinners.

Betty knew and loved her savior Jesus Christ and was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jake and Gene, her sister Charlotte and her beloved son Gregory Stephen Murdock. She is survived by her husband of 74 years Ed Murdock, daughter Carroll Fain and husband Stephen, son Frank Murdock and wife Ronnea, daughter-in-law Eileen Pope, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Betty was loved and adored by each member of her large family.

The impact of her loving personality will live on through those who were touched by her life.

A private service will be held for family at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
