On the night of May 27, 1916, Patrolman Nels Anderson was dispatched from the Minneapolis South Side police station, on a motorcycle, to investigate a domestic diaturbance. When he arrived he found Alexander Engle in the yard, assaulting his wife, who was clothed only in her nightdress. When he tried to stop the assault. Engle produced a gun and shot Anderson. Officer Anderson got off one shot at Engle. Engle killed his wife and then shot himself. Augusta's husband was hurried to the City Hospital where he died 3 days later. He was buried at Lakewood Cemetery in south Minneapolis. A life changing evening for the Anderson family.
Augusta stayed in Minneapolis and in the 1920 census, was living at 3434-20th Avenue South with Elnora, George and Elsie. In the 1930 and 1940 census, Augusta was living with Elsie and her family. The date and place of her death is being investigated.
