Professional football player and coach. Hobbs, a guard, played college football at the University of Georgia, lettering from 1946 to 1948. Drafted by the Washington Redskins in the 11th round of the 1949 NFL Draft, he instead signed with the San Francisco 49ers in February of 1949. He played in 12 games for San Francisco that season, starting twice, before playing in and starting 10 of the team's 12 games in 1950. In 1951, Hobbs became an assistant line coach at Auburn. After one season, he joined the coaching staff of the U.S. Naval Academy football team. Hobbs then served as the head football coach for Furman University from 1955 to 1957, with the Paladins going 6-24 in that time. He later coached at McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia.
