Emmett Scott King, Jr.
March 10, 1948 - March 5, 2023

ROCKY MOUNT – Emmett Scott King, Jr., age 74, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023. Born in Birmingham, AL, on March 10, 1948, he was the son of the late Douglas Wayne Presley and Evelyn Wyse Presley. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Scott King; and his sister-in-law, Emily Presley.

Emmett grew up in Fort Wayne, IN and graduated from Central High School. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he served in Okinawa. Upon discharge from the Marines, Emmett enrolled at Purdue University at Fort Wayne and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Technology. He enjoyed a long career as a Mechanical Engineer, eventually retiring from Corning, Inc. After retirement, Emmett enjoyed working on home improvements projects, taking care of the yard, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, and will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Emmett is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy King; his children, Kevin Scott King and wife, Theresa, of Henrietta, NY, Renee Michelle King of North Hollywood, CA, and Erin Alicia King of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Aiden, Isaiah, Elijah, Natassia, Justin, and Tianna; his siblings, Karen Wims and husband, Art, of Fort Wayne, IN, Alan Presley of Indianapolis, IN, Susan Smith and husband, John, of Indianapolis, IN, Patricia Smith and husband, Clarence, of Toledo, OH, Jeffrey Presley and wife, Tonya, of Fort Wayne, IN, Lisa Davis and husband, Neal, of Fort Wayne, IN, and Chris Presley, of Fort Wayne, IN; his sister-in-law, Diane Turner of Fort Wayne, IN; and his brother-in-law, Anthony Rogers, Sr. of Fort Wayne, IN; and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 331 Hammond Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Father Tim Meares celebrating. The Rite of Committal will follow the Mass at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.

A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at 9:30 AM in the church. The family will be receiving friends and relatives from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM in the basement of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
