Velda Akelund Wilkins
February 3, 1935 ~ September 27, 2022 (age 87)

Velda Akelund Wilkins passed away on September 27, 2022 at the age of 87. She was born on February 3, 1935 to Marjorie and Alfonso Pete Akelund in Vernal Utah. Velda had 4 siblings 1 brother Willis, and 3 sisters LaRaine, Shirley, and Tonna.

Velda graduated high school and married Albert Lee Wilkins on May 21, 1953. They had two daughters first, ReAnn and 3 years later Jana. She spent a lot of her time at high school rodeos with her girls in her younger years. She loved to go to the mountain to hike and hunt for any cool treasure she could find. Her other hobbies included, gardening, sewing, crafting, cooking new recipes, and most of all taking pictures.

Velda was her grand kids biggest cheerleader, she lived for every sports game, school program, recital, stock show and any other event they participated in. She never missed a one. She took thousands of pictures of all of us. Each one of her grand kids and most great grand kids had a special scrapbook that she had made over the years of each one of them. Her grand kids and great grand kids loved and adored her, they loved to go to Gram's house.

Velda loved her small community of Jensen where she resided her whole life. She was a stranger to nobody. She was always friendly, involved, and willing to help when needed. She was active in the LDS church in relief society, young womens, and visiting teaching.

Gram you will be greatly missed by your family, friends, and everyone that was blessed to know you.

Velda is survived by her two daughters, ReAnn (Danny) Sessions of Jensen and Jana (Jim) Gates of Dinosaur, CO. 4 grandchildren Danette Brooks, Bodee Sessions, Mandi Gabbitas and Mike Gates and 10 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfonso Pete and Marjorie Akelund, husband Albert Lee Wilkins, brother Willis Akelund, sisters Shirley Barnett, Tonna Shiflett and LaRaine Murray.

Funeral services will be held Saturday October 1, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, September 30, 2022 from 6:00 pm ~ 8:00 pm, and Saturday 9:45 am ~ 10:45 am all at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Jensen Cemetery under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
