Kept safe in my heart...

I don't know what to say about Roxie Claire.

She didn't know any tricks or understand many words.

She could be very demure, but everybody knew she was a little street urchin.

She would put up with anything-- being wagged by a boy on a bike, having her ears chewed on by her Buddy Girl, moving from place to place to place, having her hair dyed and sometimes, in the summer, having a hilarious haircut.

She rarely barked.

Roxie loved to go to Petsmart and watch the parakeets. I tried to take her as much as possible.

She spent one summer visiting with Mimi. Mimi fed her canned dog food and let her do anything she wanted! I believe Roxie gained a few pounds that summer. She got to be an only dog for a change, and I think she enjoyed that.

When we lived in an old apartment with no yard, Roxie spent her time in the Carrollton Water Department with Mrs. Linda.

For a while, Roxie had her very own pet-- a wild stray cat named Shepherd.

Roxie loved Grandmama Lowe and her ears would perk up when she saw the van waiting to meet us.

If she had been human, she would be the type person to never complain.

Roxie died of kidney failure in December 2004. I wish I could have spoiled her more.
