Juneau resident Nathaniel Ari Rose, 34, was found dead Sept. 22 in Juneau. A memorial service was conducted at
Temple Beth Sholom, 7525 E. Northern Lights Blvd. A gravesite burial service followed at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial service was also be held in Juneau.

Mr. Rose was born Aug. 12, 1959, in Anchorage. He attended Turnagain Elementary School, Romig Junior High School and graduated from West Anchorage High School. He also attended Reed College in Portland, Ore. As a young man, Mr. Rose participated in ice hockey, soccer, skiing and bicycling. He also enjoyed playing chess and participated in tournaments. His main interest was music. According to his family, he was an excellent violinist and participated in the Anchorage Youth Symphony for three years. He performed for family and friends and also enjoyed playing the piano and guitar. For the past 16 years, Mr. Rose suffered from bipolar illness. His family said, "Although this time was difficult for him, he made it easier for himself and all of us with his keen sense of humor." His family remembers him as a generous and compassionate man who was always there to lend a helping hand to others. Since he cared deeply for those around him, he earned a number of very loyal friends.

Mr. Rose is survived by his mother, Beatrice, father, Nissel, brother, Dr. Samuel Rose, sister and brother-in-law, Beth Rose and John Levy, and nephew, Adam Rose-Levy, all of Anchorage. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to Anchorage Residences for the Mentally Ill Inc., 4050 Lake Otis Parkway, Anchorage 99508.
