Gerry N. Gates, 67, of 327 Glendale Ave., Liverpool, died Monday at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. Mr. Gates was born in Corry, Pa., and lived in Syracuse 43 years. He retired in 1980 from Warren Bros. Construction after 18 years of service. Before that, he was employed with S.J. Groves. Mr. Gates was a member of Operating Engineers Local 585. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, the former Christine Cox; a daughter, Linda Sablitz of Connecticut; two sons, David Sr. of Baldwinsville and Randy of Oneida; two sisters, Dorothy Oger of Latham and Beverly Norcross of Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers, Don of Liverpool, Leonard of Canastota and Troy of Chittenango; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sears-Middleton Funeral Home, the Rev. Carol Keller officiating. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 209 N. Main St., North Syracuse. Contributions may be made to Liverpool Volunteer Ambulance Corps
