Pioneer of Strip Is Taken
Mrs. Nellie Frances Rath, 88, died at her home 7 1/2 miles southwest of Blackwell at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held from Roberts Mortuary chapel Thursday, the time to be announced.
Burial will be at the Braman cemetery under the direction of Roberts.
Mrs. Rath was born at Downers Grove, Illinois, December 24, 1853 and came to Oklahoma from Conway Springs, Kansas at the opening of the Strip with her family. She settled first on a farm 5 miles south of Medford.
She was a member of the Medford Christian church and a former member of the Eastern Star.
Preceding her in death was one daughter, Lillie, who died March 7, 1927, and her husband Jacob "Jake" Rath, and granddaughter Hattie Neola Rath, who died Feb. 1920.
Survivors include one son, E. C. Rath of Blackwell, 10 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
