Harvey C. Hamrick, 64, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Chapmanville, W.Va., departed this life on Thursday, February 21, 2008, at his residence. He was born August 12, 1943, in Mingo County, W.Va., and was the son of the late Other and Rhoda Hamrick.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha Jane (Feldmen) Hamrick.

Harvey was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving honorably for nearly four years. Beginning at age 12 with the gift of a banjo from his parents, bluegrass music became an integral part of his life. He was a member of several bluegrass bands over the years, as both a banjo player and singer. Harvey also encouraged other budding bluegrass musicians and singers, collected thousands of bluegrass recordings, and even recorded several bluegrass recordings of his own. Harvey was also an avid coin collector and dominoes player. He was a wonderful husband and father and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Susan Hamrick (Ungethuem) of Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters, Goldie Beth Sheppard and Amy Jane Hamrick, both of Amelia, Ohio; two sons, Thomas Jason (Marisa) Hamrick and Andrew Harvey Hamrick, also of Amelia, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Miranda Williams (Steven) and Rachel Parker; two sisters, Mary Jane Thompson and Devon Belcher both of Chapmanville; two brothers, Ralph Hamrick of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Johnny Hamrick of Ashland, Ky.
