John was born October 22, 1948 in Anderson, SC to the late John D. Shaw Sr. and Pearl McMahan Shaw.
He was a veteran of the US Army and dedicated his life to advocate for veterans and their families. John was also a huge supporter of the children in the Valley. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Swannanoa, a life member of the American Legion and Swannanoa Masonic Lodge. He was a devoted family man and loved his friends; John will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by many aunts and uncles, and nephew, Ronald Messer.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 51 years, Jean Shaw; son, John Shaw III (Angela); and grandsons, Jackson and William Shaw.
The family will receive friends Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Harwood Home for Funerals and Cremation Services.
A celebration of life service will be Friday, March 24, 2023 at 1:00pm at First Baptist Church, Swannanoa. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
