Andrew Goodwin Cooper

Andrew (Andy) Goodwin Cooper, 26, of Roanoke, VA, left the burdens of mind and body on March 4, 2023. Born on August 14, 1996, in Margate, FL to Leonard and Lori (Elliott) Cooper, Andrew was a much-loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend.

From his earliest years, Andrew was quick to learn, eager to please, and truly never met a stranger. His first decade of life was filled with soccer, Cub Scouts, days spent on local beaches, and countless homeschool field trips around South Florida. He also started violin lessons and participated in a boys choir, but was happiest simply swimming with friends and building backyard forts.

Following a family move to Roanoke, VA, Andrew immersed himself in the happenings at Lakeside Baptist Church, and treasured time spent with his many friends there. He traveled to Jamaica to help host VBS camps for children, and joined a family trip to Kibera, Nairobi (Kenya), where the schoolchildren were delighted to hear a violin for the first time and bounced eagerly in their seats as he played.

Andrew excelled in mathematics and science classes, and graduated from VA Western Community College with an Associate of Science degree. Entering adulthood, he worked at various local restaurants and retail outlets, always dreaming of his next steps and of moving back to Florida. Hindered by mental illness and his responses to it, Andrew struggled in his later years to achieve his goals. He never failed, however, to love his family and value time with them or friends. He might be found in his free time hiking local mountains, playing frisbee or soccer, attending music concerts, or just "chilling with [his] homies".

Andrew was preceded in death by two grandparents and a beloved uncle, Matthew Cooper. He is survived by his parents, three younger sisters: Audrey, Amelia, and Eleanor Cooper; two grandparents, several aunts, uncles and cousins, and many friends near and far.

There are no services planned at this time. The family would encourage his loved ones to gather, encourage each other, and treasure memories of time spent with Andrew.
