Second generation gospel preacher, teacher and pastor. Founder and Senior Pastor of the Olivet Church in Fayetteville, GA. Pastor of Mount Moriah Baptist Church from 1962 until his retirement in 1991. Dr. Creecy was a leader in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), the civil rights organization whose founders included the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. He also was a leader within the Progressive National Baptist Convention. In 2011 his son, the Rev. Howard W. Creecy, Jr., would become the president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. The son of the late Reverend and Mrs. W.W. Creecy of New Orleans, LA, Dr. Creecy died of heart failure at his home in Atlanta. Final Services were held on Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Antioch North Baptist Church. The Reverend Dr. Cameron M. Alexander, Senior Pastor, officiating. Entombment in The Abby at Westview Cemetery. Willie A. Watkins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
