Jennie Lynn Krichbaum, 69, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023, at CarePartners Solace.
Jennie was born July 16, 1953, in Asheville to the late George West Krichbaum, Sr. and Marguerite Barlow Krichbaum.
She is survived by her brother, George West Krichbaum, Jr. and his wife Linda; nephew West Krichbaum and his wife Brandi and their children Brinkley Lynn Krichbaum and Lucas West Krichbaum, and by nephew Zack Krichbaum, all of Raleigh. She is also survived by her goddaughter, Emma Grace Hutchins, her beloved Barlow cousins, a host of friends, and hundreds of former students. She was forever grateful to her brother and sister-in-law who shared their children and grandchildren with her and she always felt blessed to love and to be loved by the people who touched her life.
Ms. Krichbaum was educated in the Asheville City School System and graduated from UNC-Asheville in 1975 with a B.A. degree in Psychology and a Teaching Certificate for grades K-9.
Upon graduation, Ms. Krichbaum had the very good fortune to begin her career as an educator and "Roadrunner" at Pisgah Elementary School in Candler., where she spent 33 years as a full-time classroom teacher – retired – and returned to Pisgah for nine more years as a half-time teacher assistant. To help her students (who often called her Miss K. or Miss Krichie) reach their potential she provided love, encouragement, support, a great sense of humor, and funny costumes for every school event. She could recognize and recall their faces, names and family members years later. She exemplified the best of professionalism, dedication, compassion and commitment. Her legacy is truly found throughout the Upper Hominy Community with generations of families and children she dearly loved. Ms. Krichbaum was a mentor to many new teachers at the school and tried to inspire them to be their best selves.
Ms. Krichbaum was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church in West Asheville and was actively involved in many aspects of the church life through the years. She also had a close connection with Davis Chapel UMC (with her good buddy – Barbara Burnette) and Pleasant Hill UMC (with her sweet neighbor and friend – Judy Shuler), both located in Candler.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 24, in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. The Revs. Rodney H. Hagans, Jr. and Nancy Dixon Walton and Pastor Eric Hill will officiate. Interment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service.
