Concord, NH - Constance Manning Adams, 89, passed away on February 14, 2023. She was born March 15th 1933 in South Bellingham, MA to Doris Way Manning and Leslie Maurice Adams.
At the age of three, she moved to the Old Manning Farm in Bedford, NH. She attended the Donald St School in Bedford. High school years were spent at Manchester Central, Laconia, and Hollis High School, graduating in 1951. She then attended Honles Beauty School in Manchester and became a licensed beautician working in Hanover and Lebanon NH.
In 1953, Constance accepted the Lord as her personal Savior. In 1957 she enrolled at Southland Bible Institute in Pikeville, KY, graduating with high honors in 1960. She went on to the Child Evangelism Fellowship Institute in Muskegon, MI and was the city director of Greater Hartford, CT.
In 1967 she moved to Dryden, NY and took a position as an Administrative Aide in the chemistry department at Cornell University, Ithaca NY. She worked at Cornell until her retirement in 1995.
Upon retiring, she returned to New England living first in Woburn, MA, then moving to Concord, NH in April 2001.
Constance was an avid student of the Bible. She loved history, genealogy, reading and gardening. She was devoted to her family and friends, spending time with them whenever possible. She was proud to be descended from an old New England family. All of her forebears having come to this country from England between 1621 and 1634. Eight of her Manning ancestors were minute men fighting at Lexington, Concord, and Bunker Hill. She was related to the Adams presidents and the colonial heroine Hannah Duston.
Constance worked tirelessly over the years for the preservation of old gravestones and the old family gravestones in particular, having many of them repaired. She was a trustee of the Bedford Center Old Cemetery Association in Bedford, NH, the Manning Association, and Duston Association.
She leaves one sister; Carolyn and her husband, Robert McLean of Salem, NH. Nephews, Stephen R. McLean (deceased) and his wife Rowena of Tewksbury MA, Edward D. McLean and his wife, Patricia of Billerica, MA, Kevin W. McLean of Amherst, ME, Kenneth W. McLean and his wife, Lisa of Salem, NH. Nine grand-nephews and three grand-nieces, five great-grand-nieces and several cousins.
Constance is a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Concord, NH.
Calling hours will be on Thursday February 23, 2023 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at Bennett Funeral Home 209 N. Main Street Concord, NH. A funeral service will be on Friday February 24, 2023 at 11:00am at Trinity Baptist Church on 80 Clinton St. Concord, NH. A burial will be scheduled in the spring at Bedford Center Cemetery.
