He was preceded in death by his daughter, Celesta Ann Abbott.

He leaves behind his wife Lois; son, Woodrow A. Abbott II; daughter, Teletha Wheatcroft; son-in-law, John R. Wheatcroft, Sr.

United States Air Force Officer. A native of Kentucky and graduate of the University of Maryland, Woodrow Abbott entered Officer Candidate School with the arrival of World War Two and was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1943. After pilot training in 1944, he was assigned to a B-17 pilot in the 2nd Bombardment Group where he served until the end of the war. After serving in the Korean War, Abbott was assigned to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force until 1955. In 1956, he was reassigned to the 310th Bombardment Wing where he served in a variety of positions until 1963. From 1963 to 1968, Abbott moved from unit to unit, until 1969 when he received a promotion to the rank of Brigadier General and given command of the 307th Strategic Wing. In 1971, he was assigned as inspector general for Air Force Strategic Air Command, and later director of intelligence and inspector general at U.S. Readiness Command. General Abbott retired from the Air Force in 1974 and over his career, was awarded numerous medals and citations including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Legion of Merit, Air Medal, and Purple Heart.

Brig General Abbott was accepted into the Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame, class of 2022.
