The death of Miss Mabel Pursey occurred at the Church of St. John & St. Stephen Home on Sunday, August 12, 2012. She was born in South Nelson on March 5, 1911 to the late Phillip and Lucy (Hayman) Pursey. Mabel worked as a clerk for many years at National Drug and Chemical and Bill's Tobacco Store. She spent much of her life as a caregiver for her family members. Mabel is survived by niece, Elizabeth Ellsworth; great nieces: Jamie Degutis (Ted) and Linda Hamburg (Norman) and great nephew, Jonathan Smith (Darlene). She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Fred Pursey and sisters: Carol Stone, Gertrude Galbraith and Winifred Rolfe. In her later years, Mabel was given much love and care by Linda, Norman, Nicki and Andrew Hamburg and family. She will be sadly missed by her little companion, Bindy who was always on her lap. A special thank you for the extraordinary care Mabel received from all the staff at the Church of St. John & St. Stephen Home. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424) from where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 12:00 pm. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances to the Church of St. John & St. Stephen Home Inc. would be appreciated by the family.
