I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7

Steven Craig Childress, 62, passed away into God's graces on March 15th, 2022, surrounded by his beloved wife, Jill, and family after a brief battle with leukemia. Craig was a dear spouse, brother, coworker and friend. He was born in Mooresville, North Carolina to the late BC and Shirley Patterson Childress and grew up in Woodbridge, Virginia and Greensboro, North Carolina.

As a 1978 graduate of Woodbridge Senior High School, he went on to earn a degree at the Computer Learning Center of Northern Virginia in 1980. He spent the next 42 years as a computer programmer, working in the computer industry in Missouri, Virginia, and Maryland.

Craig resided in Damascus, Maryland with his beloved wife of 26 years, Jill Cooper Childress, and his two cats, Bono and Midnight, who kept him company in his home office during work hours. He enjoyed traveling with Jill, attending vintage car shows, and expanding his vintage Volkswagen bus collection. Craig loved all types of music, especially classic rock. When listening to a song on a classic rock station, he could always name the song and the band, which was a fun pastime when traveling. He even enjoyed a brief stint working as a DJ in his earlier years. His love of classic rock influenced the naming his beloved cats, Bono and Rod Stewart.

Family was important to Craig, and he was always present at gatherings in love and support of the people in his life. His dry, witty sense of humor was a signature trait, and he made sure to get in the last line of the conversation with a joke! Craig was whip smart and a man of deep faith. His kind spirit and humble demeanor left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Jill, and his family: step-mother Judy Childress, siblings Nathan (Dee), Valerie Otte, Darryl (Dawn), Dale Childress and extended family. He is also survived by his wife's family: mother-in-law Mary Ann Wingert, step-mother in-law Dera Byers, brother-in-law Kevin Wingert, sisters-in-law Karen (Keith) Howard, Kate Goeringer, Dera (Paul) Hunter and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, BC and Shirley Patterson Childress, brother-in-law Frank Otte, father in-law Jerry W. Cooper and step-father in-law Ron Wingert. Craig was the proud, fun uncle to numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, whom he loved as his own.
