Irene Hansman

Irene Hansman, 99, of Fort Madison, died at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Fort Madison Community Hospital in Fort Madison.

She was born Nov. 29, 1903 at Keokuk, the daughter of John and Matilda Kock Lennon. On Dec. 1, 1927, at Fort Madison, she married H.C. Hansman. He died on Nov. 13, 1972.

Mrs. Hansman began voice training at an early age, and during the 1920's, sang the lead role in Victor Herbert's operetta "Eileen" as well as other musicals produced at Keokuk.

She was a longtime member of the Fort Madison Women's Club, the Twentieth Century Study Club, and the former Fort Madison Country Club. She enjoyed playing bridge, doing needlepoint, and traveled extensively.

She is preceded in death by her husband and one son.

She is survived by one son, Dr. John Hansman of Fort Madison, and four nieces.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
