Joyce was born July 18, 1937 in Marion, NC to the late Guy and Janie Moore.
She graduated from Mtn. View High School. Joyce was a Deaconess, hospitality and choir member, usher, and a member of the Pastor's Aide Committee at Mills Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Stars for many years.
Joyce retired after 30 years from the Juvenile Evaluation Center. She served as a volunteer for Hand in Hand and Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministries. Her contributions in faith and service to the community were immeasurable, and surely, she took great delight in opening her home and her table to everyone.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Archie C. Pertiller, Sr.; sisters, Julia Hooper, Mary Margaret Avery, Ruth Swepson, Lucille Blocker, Dorcus Jean McCullough, and Pauline Moore Berry; and one great grandchild.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Archie C. Pertiller, Jr. (Angie) of Black Mountain and Arthur C. Pertiller (Kim) of Marion; grandchildren, Jennifer Berry, Melanie Scales (Lamont), Adrienne Weir (Stephen), Renee Vessels, Machelle Parker, Arlisa Pertiller, Arthur C. Pertiller, Jr., Sophia Pertiller, and Maggie G. Pertiller; 21 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 31, 2023 from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Mills Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow at the church with Rev. Bobby Hill, Jr., Pastor Michael Smith, and Rev. C.E. Rowe officiating. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
