John Charles Roper was the son of Charles Roper (1754-1832), brother of Reuben Roper (1801-1841), and grandson of Meredith Roper (1730-1800)*. He was the father of 16 children by two wives. John was the father of eleven children with his first wife Tabitha. About two years after Tabitha's death, John married Amy Reid, and they had five children together. Based on census records, Amy was born in 1826 and died in 1876. Amy's grave has not been identified, but it has been confirmed that she was buried in an unmarked grave in the Friendship Cemetery in an area that includes her Reid family members. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, and her father was a charter member of that church.

Research is still under way for more information about the two other children of John Charles and Tabitha Roper. Those graves have not yet been identified.
