ABBOTT, Hazen Of Marcellus Formerly of Lawton, died Tuesday, November 21, 2006 in Lawton. He was born November 25, 1914 near Schoolcraft, the son of Henry and Ilah (Fox) Abbott, the oldest of five children.

He has lived in the Marcellus and Lawton area most of his life

Graduated from Lawton High School class of 1932

Was on the Lawton Fire Department and was fire chief, two years

The Abbott family moved to Marcellus in 1946 when Hazen went into partnership with his father-in-law, Arthur Wright, at the Marcellus Fur Company.

In 1955 he purchased the Welcher Insurance Agency on Main Street, and with his nephew, Robert Powers, formed Abbott and Powers Agency. Retiring in 1960.

Was the former owner of States Golf Course near Vicksburg. Served many years on the Marcellus Fire Department, also served as the Marcellus Township Treasurer

Wife of 71 years, Mildred Wright, whom he married on August 17, 1935

one daughter, Joyce (Al) De-Ruiter

one son, Carroll (Nancy) Abbott

one granddaughter, Lori (David) Bauer

one grandson, David (Brandi) DeRuiter

one great-granddaughter, Kira and one great-grandson, Pearson

two sisters, Maxine Bauer, and Roberta Cooper; two brothers, Dallas (Jerry) Abbott, and Keith (Shirley) Abbott, many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Ilene Roberts

Services Saturday, November 25, 2006 in the Mater Funeral Home, Marcellus, with Rev. Melodye Surgeon-Rider, Pastor of the Marcellus United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Bly Cemetery, Marcellus.
