He was born on August 1, 1950, in Austin to James Wallace Bailey and Martha Kouba Bailey.
Law enforcement was Pat's life and spanned over 46 years. After graduating with the 46th cadet class of the Austin Police Academy in 1972, he proudly served the Austin Police Department, starting with Patrol and later in Narcotics, Organized Crime, Auto Theft and Burglary until his retirement in 1998.
Happiest with a gun in his boot and a badge in his pocket, Pat's first retirement did not last long. He went on to work with the Williamson County Sherriff's Office in Internal Affairs until 2004. He then changed gears for a while and worked as an Investigator in Insurance Fraud with Nationwide Insurance and later the Texas Department of Insurance.
Ready for a change of scenery, in 2013 Pat jumped at the chance to move to McAllen and return to working Internal Affairs, this time at the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office, where he worked until 2018. After another short retirement, he joined the Alamo Police Department. He spent the last ten years of his life enjoying life in the Rio Grande Valley.
Pat was protective and was a hero to many. He valued integrity over everything else.
He could be intimidating when warranted, but also had a big heart and loved helping and encouraging people. His immediate response to a problem was "I'll take care of it". He loved giving gifts, especially taking great pleasure in giving gag gifts.
Pat made many strong, lifelong friendships. His unmistakable voice that could fill a room and his infectious laugh will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Lacey and spouse Matt, Jennifer Piche and spouse, Sean, his brother, Mike Bailey and spouse Dana, his sister, Sandra Smock and spouse Stephen, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 22 at 11:00 a.m. at McDade Cemetery in McDade, Texas.
