Lambertine "Jean" Marie Josephine was the daughter of Thomas H. Gordijn and Maria Anna (Ronnen) Gordijn.


She was the youngest of her 5 siblings, two brothers and two sisters. She grew up in a large and loving family but also experienced many of the difficulties of living under German occupation during World War II.


During the war, she briefly met her husband-to-be who was serving in the U.S. Army. John returned to Holland in 1948, and they were married two weeks later.

Jean married John Patrick Broughton on 13 MAY 1948 in Maastricht, Holland.

They had 4 children, two sons and two daughters.


Jean Americanized her name on her Passport when she moved to New London, Connecticut in 1948 and maintained close ties with all of her Dutch relatives.


She was an expert seamstress, a very good cook, and a budding artist who did many paintings. She and her husband liked to travel from enjoying Mardi Gras in New Orleans, United States to celebrating Carnival in her hometown of Maastricht, Netherlands.
