Pfc. Kevin M. Luna of Oxnard, California grew up in Oxnard and played football for Rio Mesa High School, joined the Army in 1999. In 1997, he fathered a son and joining the military would provide a steady income and an opportunity to serve his country. He decided to re-enlist while in Iraq for another four years in the service. While stationed in Germany, he volunteered with the Weiden Fire Department. It was there, in 2003, that he met and married a young German woman who was working on the Army base as an electrician. Kevin was a generous and warm person who would do such things as make calls to California from his base in Germany to help find a job for a longtime friend who was out of work. Whenever he returned to California to visit, he would tell friends to have a list of projects that he could help them accomplish. He died of non-combat-related injuries in Muqdadiyah, Iraq at age 26.
