Rev. Fred D. Woodham, of Summerville, S.C., died August 13, 2003 in Belton, Texas

The Rev. Woodham was born May 14, 1909 in Fitzgerald, Ga., to the Rev. Beaty Woodham and Viola Barnes Woodham.

He was one of four children including Rea, Beaty and Seaborn.

He was called into the ministry in 1934. The first year of his ministry he served as visiting minister to several churches in Georgia. Later he pastured churches in Georgia, South Carolina, Florida and Mississippi for nearly 60 years. He pastored at the First Church of God of Palatka from 1952 to 1955.


In 1942, the Rev. Woodham, the Rev. J. Lee Ingram and the Rev. W.O. Moon founded the Southern Convention of the First Church of God which encompassed congregations from South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida and Georgia. The attendance grew from 100 in Jacksonville the first year to over several thousand for over 50 years.

He married Thelma Ingram Woodham in 1936 who assisted him in church service and played the piano for Sunday worship service until her death in 1996.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sister; and his wife.

Mr. Woodham is survived by his four children: Fred L. Woodham, Summerville, S.C.; Faye Woodard, Dallas, Texas; Doris Ragalyi, Belton, Texas; and Phyllis Woodham-Burgess, Austin, Texas; eight grandsons and one grandchild; and numerous great-grandchildren.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be sent to: Rev. F.D. Woodham Memorial Fund, c/o Guardian 2000, 5615 Abilene Trail, Austin, TX 78749.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 at James A. Dyal Funeral Chapel in Summerville, S.C.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17 at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Summerville Cemetery, Summerville, S.C.
