Mrs. Mary A. Brock, wife of Rev. S. R. Brock, dropped dead of heart failure Friday afternoon at five o'clock, at her home, the Commercial hotel. She was sitting in the kitchen superintending some work when the summons came and without warning or a word to any one, fell over dead. She had been in bad health for several years and her death in this manner was no great surprise. At the time Mr. Brock was helping in a meeting at Indian Trail. he left home that morning with reluctance, though Mrs. Brock seemed really better than she had been for some time, and insisted on his going. The remains were buried at Marshville, the services being held by Rev. Messrs. Atkinson and Shinn.
Mrs. Brock was sixty-four years old, and a native of Chesterfield county, being a daughter of the Rev. M. Shaw, a well known Methodist preacher of that section. She was for forty years a member of the Methodist church and a most faithful, earnest christian woman. She was patient and uncomplaining in her suffering, and kind, gentle and good in her dealings with all. She made warm friends wherever she went. She was married to Mr. Brock Feb. 20th, 1882. Two children were born to them, only one of whom is living, Mr. W. E. Brock, who is now mayor of Wadesboro.
