In Loving Memory
Margaret Regina Rathbone Meadows, my mother (aka The Warden) of Candler (aka The Rock) passed away April 8th after a brief illness. Heaven has gained a soldier and angel.
Margaret was last surviving child of Margaret Carleen Cody Rathbone and Orville William Rathbone. In addition to her parents Margaret was predeceased by her son Virgil Lee Meadows, Jr. Sisters, Mary Alice Rathbone, Ruba Lee Rathbone Caldwell, Hester Rosetta Rathbone Cagle, Sally Kathryn Rathbone Morgan, Amanda Evelyn Rathbone Meadows and one brother Raymond Elic "Dutch" Rathbone.
Margaret is survived by her husband of nearly 64 yrs Virgil lee Meadows, Sr and daughter Janet Elaine Meadows of the home. As well as her dog Scarlett and cats Sadie and Diamond.
Margaret retired from American Enka/BASF after 38 years of service.
Additionally, Margaret championed the Civil Rights of others especially the disabled and those who could not speak for themselves. She was a soldier and an angel.
Margaret's strength and humor resonated with everyone she met. To her nephews she was "The Warden" and her home "The Rock" :-)
Her generosity knew no bounds she would give anything for those she loved. Once you walked in her door you were no longer a stranger but a member of the family.
Margaret was an avid gardener who loved all flowers. She also loved cooking, canning and making crafts. She is the last of the true "mountain women" in her family.
Margaret will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of meeting and knowing her. But she will be missed most as mother and wife.
For My Mother
By: Janet E. Meadows
I didn't just lose the woman that taught me to take my first steps. I lost the woman who taught me to walk over and over again.
I didn't just lose the woman who taught me to feed myself, I lost the woman who fed me when I couldn't feed myself.
I didn't just lose the woman that taught me to dress myself, I lost the woman who dressed me when I couldn't dress myself.
I didn't just lose the woman who taught me how to drive, I lost the woman who fought for me to have the right to drive.
I didn't just lose the woman who took me to my first day of school, I lost the woman who fought for me to have the right go to school.
I didn't just lose my mother I lost my championship fighter.
I lost the woman who could push me harder than anyone else .
I lost the one person who would do battle with me till neither of us had any blood left to give, but who would still love me unconditionally when it was over.
When I didn't think I couldn't go any farther she pushed me one more step one more battle. "I can't" was never acceptable.
My mother pushed me to success when no one else thought I could.
Mother's of disabled children are a breed apart.
My Mom never treated me like I had.a disability but she never forgot it and made sure I had the rights and privileges of everyone else.
