Blackville, Feb 11 [1905] - Mr H J Hair, a confederate veteran and prominent citizzen, died at his home near here on Thursday morning, 9th inst., after a brief illness of pneumonia, in his 78th year.
Mr Hair was one of the best known and best loved citizens of Barnwell county. He loved his country, his State, and his county, but his church ad his home were his greatest pride and joy.
He has been a consistent member of the Healing Springs Baptist Church since young manhood and in his later years a devoted member of that body.
He reared an interesting family of girls and boys, two of whom, J K Hair, pastor of the Second Baptist Church, Union, and S P Hair, pastor of churches in the Barnwell association, are loved and faithful ministers of the gospel. His eldest son is a deacon in the Healing Springs church and superintendent of the Sunday school. He leaves these three sons, three daughters and his devoted wife, who had been his faithful companion for nearly half a century, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death.
Rev D H Crosland, a former pastor, conducted his funeral and his remains were laid to rest in the Blackville cemetery at 1 o'clock.
