Freddie Mae Adair
( September 26, 1938 - March 28, 2023 )

My grandmother married at the young age of eight-teen to Zebedee Adair Sr. Shortly after marriage is when she would give birth to her first child Junior and a few years later gave birth to Sharon. She was the proud military wife of Zebedee Adair Sr., and because of my grandfather's time served in the U.S. Navy, this allowed my grandmother to travel the world and build long-lasting memories and life experiences. She lived abroad in Italy with my grandpa, mom, and uncle. Although she did not care for living in Italy, she was happy to have the experience. My grandfather's military career took him and my grandmother to many cities and states and ultimately they would settle in Ridgecrest, California. My grandma and grandpa were both very simple people and did not care for the big city life, so Ridgecrest was the perfect place for them. As my grandparents settled into their lives in Ridgecrest they would also become very involved in the upbringing of their grandchildren and once my grandfather passed my grandmother would continued to not only raise her three grand girls, but she would also help to raise her great-grandchildren. We all had our special relationship with my grandma that was unique to each of us and we are blessed to be able to say that we had this time with her.

My grandmother was a pillar of her community, she was very involved in the church and known for being someone that could always be called on, whether it was someone in need of help or just needing advice. She was well-liked and respected in her community and went out of her way to help in any way that she could. In the past time, she enjoyed gardening and took pride in fixing up her home. She was the green thumb of the family and there was not a plant, tree, or rose bush that she could not grow or bring back to life. She loved watching the hummingbirds and butterflies and would always make sure that her hummingbirds were fed.

My grandmother's biggest strength is that she was very strong-willed, determined, and independent. She was always there for her family and the backbone. Grandma was always the voice of reason and was known for being a wealth of knowledge. Whether it was giving advice or helping to take care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was always there. I was so blessed to have had my grandmother with me (Latanisha) and great-grandkids. We were able to build more happy memories together and just have her with us every day up until her last day. We had many plans for building our new home together and making it ours together. My grandmother and Zynah (great-grandchild) had planned on putting in a garden and growing strawberries and this was a daily topic of discussion along with how they were going to save a dying rose bush. The grandkids have decided that they will move forward with grandma's plans to put in "grandma's garden" with strawberries and rose bushes.

Our hearts ache and our family does not feel whole and there is an emptiness, but one thing we all agree on is that she is in a better place and at peace.
