Mr. Michael "Mike" Lee Abbott, age 65, of Hanover, Indiana entered this life on November 20, 1957. He was the loving son of the late Donald Lee and Mary Helen Lutz Abbott. He was a 1976 graduate of Southwestern High School in Hanover, Indiana. After graduating high school, Michael enlisted in the United States Navy where he would serve for twenty years. He rose to the rate of Sonar Tech Surface Chief Petty Officer serving aboard the USS Paul F. Foster (DD964). He was honorably discharged on September 30, 1996 at Everett, Washington receiving the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal-5th Award, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon-2nd Award, the Navy Expeditionary Medal; the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Citation Medal. On October 11, 2007, he was united in marriage with Sharon Hunter where they would live happily together until her untimely death on September 18, 2018. During Michael's life, he worked as a maintenance technician for Arvin Sango for seven years and spent two years working in the casting department at Madison Precision Products. Michael was a member of the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed working on antique tractors, staying up to date on the current political events, learning about World War II, and spending time on computers. He enjoyed being with his family and close friends. Mike died on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 9:25 a.m. at his home in Hanover, Indiana.
A LOVING FAMILY
Mike will be missed by his loving daughter, Christina Erickson and her husband, Ryan of Indianapolis, Indiana; his brother, Bill Abbott and his wife Cil of Lexington, Indiana; his sister, Penny Gordon and her husband, Tony of Lexington, Indiana; his brother in law, Ronald Hunter of New Albany, Indiana; Kathy Hunter of Lexington, Kentucky; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Lee Abbott, died April 4, 1995, his mother, Mary Helen Lutz Abbott, died December 23, 2014, his beloved wife of eleven years, Sharon Hunter Abbott, died September 18, 2018.
FUNERAL CEREMONY
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. by Mark Calvert at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Crown Hill Cemetery in New Washington, Indiana.
VISITATION
Friends may visit Friday, April 14, 2023 from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Center, Madison, Indiana.
MILITARY HONORS
A final salute with military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Unit and the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion.
