John was born on December 6, 1922, in Murray, Utah, to Charles and Amelia Doty, and was later adopted by William and Mary Light.

He passed away on March 29, 2023, in Cedar Park, Texas, at the age of 100. It is believed that John had many brothers and sisters, anywhere from 15-18 siblings in total.

John married Cleo Denice Earl on November 23, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They bought a home and settled in West Valley City, Utah, in 1953. They had three children, Kenneth (Polly) Light, Dick (Joan) Light, and Deann (Karl) Higley. His children went on to bless him with 10 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 38 great-great-grandchildren.

John was a mechanic at Tooele Army Depot for many years. He loved working on cars and anything else he could tinker around with. If you wanted to find him, the garage was the first place to look. He had a true mechanical mind.

John and his wife loved to square dance and, even after her passing, he could be found every week at the senior center, square dancing well into his 90's. It kept him feeling young, doing what he loved.

John is survived by his three children, many grand-, great-, and great-great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Cleo, grandson Ira, his parents, and many siblings.

John will be missed by many. One of the most fond memories that will be cherished by his family is his 100th birthday party, where he had the biggest smile, and it was a joy to celebrate him.

Until we meet again we will keep our memories of you close to our hearts. Love your children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Your legacy will go on through us.
