Vienna Elizabeth Shumaker
BOISE, Idaho -- Vienna E. (Kerr) Shumaker, 101, wife of the late John Clarence, died recently. She was the loving mother of Dr. L. Don (Gail) Shumaker and Ann Stephens Burke (Del), the beloved stepmother of Dorothy Lutsch (deceased) and Dr. James H. Shumaker. She was adored by her extended family of 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. A sister, Ruth Wilson, preceded her in death.

She was a 1924 graduate of Millersburg High School, where she was the only female of four whom went to college. She graduated from Muskingum College in 1928, and pursued an Ohio teaching career, teaching in the Trail Run, Seville and Sterling schools. Vienna was a resident of Seville from 1932-2001, when she moved to Boise, Idaho, to live with her daughter, Ann. She was a community leader and a leader in the Seville Presbyterian Church, where she became one of the first female Elders when the Presbyterian Church revised its policies to become inclusive of women in leadership. She taught and led by example and was distinguished as a person by her kindness, optimism, humility and grace. She will be missed by a wide circle of friends of all ages. She was known for a great sense of humor and was without enemies, outliving them all.

The family suggests donations be made to Seville Presbyterian Church, 101 Center St., Seville 44273, where a church service honoring her is being planned for Sunday, April 13, at 10:30 a.m. There will be an open reception with the family at the church from 1:30-4 p.m., to share memories and for those unable to attend the earlier service. [Daily Record 12 Jan 2008].
