By 1920 she was widowed and living in Robeson County, where she farmed. Gussie and Sam had 5 children, one of whom died by 1910. The surviving 4: Annie, Robert Henry, Janie, and Charlie Alexander.

--Cause of death: cerebral hemorrhage.
