On the morning of Friday, April 14, 2023, Joan Grace Finnegan passed away at the age of 74.

Joan was the lifelong love of her husband, Bob Finnegan, and mother of Jennifer, Keri and Kristen. She was the grandmother of Brodie Leahy, Abbriele Leahy, Jonathan Patruno and Christopher Patruno. Her son in laws, David Patruno and John Garabedian were also sources of pride, as they served Jennifer and Keri beautifully over the years as model spouses. She is survived by her sister, Maryann Grimm, and her dear cousin, Charlotte Maier and many friends in Sidney and Oneonta. She is also survived by her in laws, Maureen Korianski, Russell and Diane Finnegan and Richard Finnegan, as well as her goddaughter, Karen Sheehan and nieces Lisa Tobin, Laura Perrone, Nina Davis and Cynthia Krow and her nephews, Ric Korianski and Brian and Kevin Finnegan.

She was predeceased by her parents, George and Mary Ellison and her brother, George Ellison.

Joan had many dear friends. She will certainly miss Mary Lou and Jeri Jerminario, her next door neighbors for the past 18 years, two in which she would refer to as her "second family".

Joan was born on November 12, 1948 in Manhattan, New York.

She grew up in Hempstead and Bethpage, Long Island and attended Island Trees High School in Levittown at which she graduated.

Joan and Bob began their journey together with a marriage at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Seaford, New York on December 19, 1970 and lived a journey that took them to Sidney, New York.

As her husband Bob taught and coached, Joan spent much of her years in Sidney providing child care for many children of teachers of the area. One of Joan's children she had cared for, Meredith Delello, actually is one of her godchildren.

Upon the end of Bob's teaching career, Joan convinced Bob that returning to Oneonta, where they first resided, would be the next move.

Upon returning to the Oneonta area, Joan became a volunteer of the A.O. Fox Hospital Guild. One of her most enjoyable and meaningful experiences was working as a volunteer at the Fox Hospital Nursing Home.

Joan was the most encouraging of parents and grandparents. She was excited to see the growing maturation and success of her grandchildren and would be seen as one of the most energetic of "cheerleaders" at many sporting events.

Joan had a liking for a card game called "Hand and Foot" and will certainly miss the games with Linda Kulp, Julie Grant, Pat Leslie and Marcella Drago. They had been saving a "seat" for Joan the past several months during Joan's medical issues.

Joan's legacy is the pride she had for the tremendous success of Jennifer, Keri and Kristen and her grandchildren. She will be sorely missed as the "matriarch" of her family.

Joan donated a number of body parts upon her passing in the hope that someone in need could benefit from them.

The interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Columbarium.
