Lois Ruth Poe Gilliam, 95, retired Secretary for attorney Gene Hallworth for over 20 years, died Saturday, April 15, 2023 at her residence in Columbia.
Born July 10, 1927 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Lee Roy Poe and the late Ruby Vaughn Poe. She was a 1946 graduate of Columbia Central High School. Prior to working for Gene Hallworth, she worked for 25 years with Tennessee Farm Bureau. Mrs. Gilliam was a member of North View Church of Christ and former member of Riverside Church of Christ, where she started attending with her husband in 1957.
Survivors include her husband of 75 years, whom she married April 3, 1948, Boyd Cecil Gilliam of Columbia; son, Jason Gilliam and daughter-in-law, Dawn Gilliam of Columbia; grandchildren, Macy Gilliam, Harrison Gilliam, Bo Gilliam; and nephew, Dwayne Woody.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy "Dot" Woody; and niece, Phyllis Evans.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Mike Greene and Jeremy Butt officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers will be Harrison Gilliam, Bo Gilliam, John Pollard, Kyle Luna, David Dodson and Tyler Carter. Honorary pallbearers include Dwayne Woody, Macy Gilliam, Kurt Bowers, Jason Edwards, her caregivers, Kim Edwards, Danielle Bartlett, Kay Zitlow, long-time neighbor, Pam Bates, and members of North View Church of Christ.
