Meriwether Lewis McGinnis
Mrs. Meriwether Gantt Lewis McGinnis, 90, of Shipman died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999. She was born in Howardsville, on Sept. 19, 1908. Mrs. Meriwether McGinnis was a member of Emmanual Episcopal Church, (Glenmore) Buckingham County for 80 years and attended Trinity Episcopal at Oak Ridge for the past 50 years. She was a very active worker in the activities of the Shipman community. She served as the assistant and head Post Mistress of the Shipman Post Office for over 30 years. Survivors include two sons, Bernard Lewis McGinnis of Shipman, Charles Meriwether McGinnis of Salem and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents John Gantt Lewis, and Mary Camm Patteson Lewis and also her husband Bernard Watson McGinnis in 1949. A church service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Episcopal Church at Oak Ridge. Interment will be in the Amherst Cemetery at Amherst after the church service conducted by the Rev. Craig Fickling.
