My mother Hattie Mae Beckett Adkins was the sister of Hermans mother Mildred. They had a very close and religious family. Herman's grandparents attended the Enon Baptist Church for many years until their health wouldn't allow them anymore. I remember going to their house in Salt Rock for many years on Sunday's especially where my mother and would help Grandma Ellie cook. They had a pot belly stove in the living room for heat and a wood and coal stove for cooking. Those were some of the best times of growing up. Herman was a wonderful person throughout his life. He was 10 years older than me and he was always nice when he was a small boy and I can remember him carrying a bunch of pens in his pocket of his shirt. He would visit a few of my brothers later on in life and I had gone to his place in Salt Rock when I was researching our family. He was such a wonderful person and will be sadly missed.
