GREENVILLE -- Charles David "Dave" Schmalenberger, age 94 of Greenville, Ohio passed away Monday, September 19, 2022 at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. Dave was born in Greenville, Ohio on February 15, 1928 to the late Karl and Mary (Jordan) Schmalenberger. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1946, and married Elizabeth "Betty" Brown November 26, 1948.

Dave retired from the United States Postal Service in 1984, and later retired from Greenville National Bank as a courier in 1997. He was a life-long member of St Paul's Lutheran Church in Greenville.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 72 years, Elizabeth "Betty" (Brown) Schmalenberger, grandson David Hutton, son-in-law Chris Hutton, and siblings Joseph Schmalenberger, Mary Helen Lecklider, and Barbara Sparklin.

Dave leaves behind his children, Martha Hutton, Linda (A.T./Tom) Allread, Lisa (Jorge) Milo; grandchildren Joseph (Sue Myrden) Hutton, Adam Hutton, Joel (Kara) Allread, Jordan (Allison) Milo, Kelsey Milo, Brianna Milo; great grandchildren Hannah Hutton, Christopher Hutton, Reed Hanes, Morgan Hanes, Gavin Allread.

A graveside service and burial for both Dave and Betty at Greenville Union Cemetery will be held at a later date.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Brethren Retirement Community Resident Aid Fund or EverHeart Hospice.
