Captain John L Croker, 17th (The Leicestershire) Regiment of Foot. Gentleman Cadet at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Commissioned into the 17th Foot on 18 Mar 1837. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 3 Jun 1839 and to Captain on 5 Nov 1847. He served with his Regiment in the Crimea during the Crimea War. He was killed in the attack on the Redan, Sevastopol on 18 Jun 1855. He was buried on Cathcart's Hill: "Sacred to the memory of Captn J.L. Croker 17th Regt who fell in action 18th June 1855." He is also commemorated on a memorial tablet in the Royal Memorial Chapel, RMA Sandhurst, Camberley, Surrey Heath Borough, Surrey, England.
