After returning from Vietnam, he worked with his father in the maintenance department at the UW campus. He then worked at Monona Tire for many years before starting his own business, Doug's Tire Service in 1980. In 1998, he sold the business and went to work for Pomp's Tire Service until his retirement in 2015.
He was known for his outgoing, friendly personality and loved nothing more than talking for hours over countless cups of coffee. He was always willing to help others and enjoyed working on projects and using his carpentry skills. He enjoyed going to rodeos, playing cards, and vacationing with his wife and her parents. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandsons.
He is survived by his children, Lisa (Chris) Czech, Darren (Cathy) Reinke and Tracy (Joe) Marick; grandchildren, Emily (Tucker) Roesler, Derek Czech, Alyssa (Ian Parks) Reinke, Dylan Reinke, Karsten (Jessica) Marick, Ethan (Michelle) Marick, Joshuah Marick and Caleb Marick; great-grandsons: Braxton and Maverick Roesler, Greyson Marick and Jackson Marick, siblings, Connie (Patrick Breckon) Fry, Randy (Debra) Hildreth, Tammy (Bill) Cody, Don (Becky) Hildreth brother and sister in-laws, Rod Johnson, Mel (Frannie) Hubred, Ronald (Sue) Hubred and Kim (Kae) Hubred and Godson, Jon Hildreth. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, siblings Sherri Johnson, Danny Hildreth and Rita Roman, and his mother and father in-law, Melvin and Evelyn Hubred.
Burial with military honors will be held at 11am on Saturday, May 27th, 2023 at St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church Cemetery, 3494 Oak Park Rd, Deerfield. A Celebration of Doug's Life will be held immediately following at the Church's Education Center.
