Funeral services for Wayne Smith, 87, of Leagueville have been scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Thursday April 27, 2023 at Leagueville Baptist Church with Stanley Smith and Bro. Tom Bragdon officiating. Private burial will follow at Leagueville Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5-7 P.M. at Autry's Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith passed away Saturday morning in Leagueville.
He was born September 22, 1935 in Henderson County to the late Selman Dewitt and Ella Mae Hopson Smith. He married Marilyn Sue Colley August 6, 1954 and was a resident of Leagueville all of his life, and a member of Leagueville Baptist Church since 1950. Wayne was a lifelong carpenter and also a custom home builder for many years. He played an integral part in building the current facilities of Leagueville Baptist Church. He retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice after a 10-year career. He loved history, namely early local history, and was a member of the Henderson County Historical Society. He spent countless hours creating and updating memorials on Find a Grave in our local area and beyond.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 60 years, Marilyn Sue (Colley) Smith, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Survivors include three sons, Stanley Smith and wife Dora of Combine, Wade Smith and wife Diana of Leagueville, Scott Smith of Dallas; 2 daughters, Waynette Dingler and husband Len of Nocona, Shanna Smith of Leagueville. 8 grandchildren; Regan Smith, Cne' Coone , Brennan Dingler, Blair Platt, Bryce Dingler, Jaycie Smith, Morgan Smith and Timothy Smith. 11 great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Joe Mark Lewis, Dennis Smith, Ryan Coone, Brennan Dingler, Bryce Dingler and Timothy Smith.
Honorary pallbearers are his great-grandsons.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Hospice Plus for the excellent care they provided. Namely, his nurse, Connie and his aide, Keke.
