Another soldier, reared in Lindstrom, who loved its lakes and woodlands and was once a student t the High School was dropped in the fight for his flag and country. He was reported killed in action overseas. His name is Roy Abrahamson.
Roy was born in Malta, MT on June 11, 1919. he came to Lindstrom with his parents in the autumn of the year 1919, and spent his childhood days in the village attending both grade and high school and was confirmed in Trinity English Lutheran Church.
In Sept 1937, Roy moved to Minneapolis with his mother, sister and younger brother.
On Nov 7, 1942, he married Miss Gladys Grandholm of Minneapolis and in December of that years entered the Army.
He went overseas last Sept and was killed in action in France, January 19, 1945.
He is survived by his wife and a daughter, on year old, his mother, Olga Abrahamson; two sisters; Mrs. Elmer E. Johnson and Mrs. Wayne Martin, (nee Edith and Fay Abrahamson) and Bernhard Abrahamson of Minneapolis.
The father of the soldier, deceased, was Roy Abrahamson. Another sister, who preceded him in death was June, who became Mrs. Leland Andrews and died a year after the marriage from a heart condition.
Roy Abrahamson had written a letter on the eve of his killing by the Germans in battle, which reached his family just 3 days before the violent death of battle-action struck him down fatally.
Roy was an exceptionally human and splendid character. His thoughts and concern were never for himself, but his mother, wife and family and friends, first, before all else..
A memorial is to be held for Roy at St. John's English Lutheran in Minneapolis with the Rev Lyle Burns officiating.
