Gary Shane Abbott, age 77, of Belton, MO passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023 after battling Parkinson's disease.

Gary was born March 25, 1946 in Pleasantville, NJ, the son of Theodore C. Abbott and Gladys N. Coventry-Abbott.

After Gary graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1964, he enlisted in the US Air Force the following year, serving in Vietnam as a jet engine mechanic, working on B-52 bombers, and achieving the rank of A1C before being honorably discharged in October of 1968. Gary then went on to study at the University of Miami, majoring in Business Administration and graduating in 1972.

For many years Gary worked in sales, selling yachts and cars. In 1997, Gary met Rachell "Shelly" Bates in Cleveland, OH where they later married. Gary has one stepson, Matthew Capek (Shara Chapek) who is expecting his first child this June.

Gary was predeceased by his parents Theodore and Gladys; his brother Theodore "Sonny"; and his sisters Sheryll and Gladys "Sissy." Gary is survived by his wife; his stepson; his sister; his five nieces; and his eight.

Gary cared deeply for people and shared the gospel every chance he could. He was president of the Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship Heart of America Chapter in Kansas City. Gary spent time in Madagascar on many different missionary trips. Gary and Shelly also helped numerous individuals at their residence, nicknamed Restoration Ranch. Gary was a cowboy at heart and enjoyed raising horses at their farm. His brothers and sisters throughout the years liked to tease each other, sending pictures of them eating subs from the famous White House in Atlantic City, NJ when they visited family members.

Committal services with full military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.
