Husband of Margaret Bethuel Scaife 15 Nov 1826 - 30 Nov 1898. He founded Atlanta, GA by building the embankments for the railroad and opening a commissary for the Irish workers there. It was origially called Thrasherville, then Terminus, Marthasville, and finally in 1847, Atlanta. This is commemorated by a plaque on the Federal Reserve Bank on Merietta St. near the original site of the first business in Atlanta. He also started Norcross GA and named it for his friend and former mayor of Atlanta. He moved to Pasco county FL in 1870, after the war.
