Wade served as a First Lieutenant and Pilot on the B-17F "Miss Fortune" #42-3328, 568th Bomber Squadron, 390th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Suffolk County, New York prior to the war.

B-17F "Miss Fortune" #42-3328, during a raid on Munster, Germany, was attacked by German fighter aircraft and hit which caused their tail section to be blown off and the B-17 quickly broke in half, exploded and crashed.

After B-17F #42-3328 exploded B-17F "Mis Behavin" #42-3415, unavoidably, hit the wreckage and also crashed.

Wade was "Killed In Action" in this crash at Horstmann Farm, Vorsundern, near Burgsteinfurt, Germany during the war.

" 4 " fellow crew members survived the crash and became POW's of the German Army.

Wade was awarded the Air Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.

Service # O-794590

He was originally interred in Belgium and was later repatriated here on March 23, 1950.

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldiers & sailors were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
