Charles was known as "Bud" or "Buddy." He was born on April 12, 1943, in Wilmington, Clinton County, Ohio, the son of Denver Wilson Williams and Mabel Mae Boyd. Buddy grew up in the Mt. Joy area of Scioto County, Ohio. He worked for many years at Randall-Textron in Wilmington, Ohio.
He married Goldie Ann Riley of Sinking Springs, Ohio on August 14, 1964. They were married for 43 years and had five children: Kathy Williams (of Berea, KY); Charles Theodore "C.T." Williams II (Hillsboro, OH); Michael Ray Williams (Peebles, OH); and twins, Denise Lynn Williams Scheler (Berea, KY) and Denver Lee Williams (Peebles, OH).
His siblings were Charles Eugene Williams, who died as an infant; Barbara Ann Williams (married name Hughes); Selma Karen Williams (married name Tolliver); and Margaret Hazel "Peggy" Williams (married name Dunn).
He served with the United States Army in the early 1960s. He did his basic training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, and was stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia, with the Bravo Braves. He also served a tour of duty in Germany at the U.S. base in Baden-Baden. He excelled at riflery and qualified as an expert marksman. He taught all five of his children marksmanship.
Buddy loved the woods and being outside, and he liked to hunt and fish. In the spring, he hunted morels; in the fall, he searched for ginseng. He also enjoyed flowers, especially orange poppies and roses, and watching birds, hummingbirds in particular. He loved dogs all of his life. As a boy, he had a favorite dog named Sally. As an adult he had two beloved hunting beagles, Poochie and Joe.
Buddy was descended from a long line of farmers, and he ejoyed the last house he lived in, a small farm in Peebles, Ohio.
He loved his grandkids and always felt happy when they were around. He and Goldie have nine grandchildren: Tiffany Rochelle Smalls; Charles Theodore "B.J." Williams III; Julia Ann Williams; Megan Beth Williams; Michael Ray Williams II; Reid Spears Scheler; Goldie Ione Raine Scheler; Joshua Ryann Williams; and Denver Wilson Williams II.
He is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery on Steam Furnace Road outside of Peebles, Ohio. This is the family cemetery of his wife, Goldie. Buddy is buried near his nephew, Bradley Dunn; his brother-in-law, Jerry Dunn; and his mother-in-law, Birdie Ione Wamsley Riley.
Buddy suffered for many years from complications of diabetes, heart disease, and colon cancer. He passed away at home on the morning of January 7, 2008, his wife Goldie and his sons by his side.
He is loved and missed by his family.
