Bill Barnett of Pottsboro, Texas passed away on May 1, 2023 at the age of 87. He was born on October 25, 1935 in Atlas, Texas to Clarence Homer and Ila Ollie Mae (Ables) Barnett. In 1955, he married Julia Hill in Paris, Texas.
Bill was a faithful Christian with a servant's heart. He was a gentleman's gentleman that had no enemies. Bill had a strong work ethic beginning at age nine while working at the Joe Hillhouse Grocery. He had a long tenured career as a truck driver with nearly forty years of service with Safeway. After retirement, he could be found working as a security guard at Texoma Medical Center for many years. When not working, you could find Bill outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish, and boat. He loved anything related outside. He enjoyed collecting guns and reloading his own ammo. Bill enjoyed his Mexican food and watching classic westerns. Most importantly, he was very proud of his children and their accomplishments. He loved his family deeply and will be missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by the love of his life, Julia; five children; Cynthia Stagner of Pottsboro, Texas, formerly of Sherman, Texas, Michael Barnett of Pottsboro, Texas, Lori Dee and husband Kenny of Rowlett, Texas, Lisa Griffin and husband Larry Burchett of Denison, Texas, and Sharon Edwards and husband George of Pottsboro, Texas; eight grandchildren, William Stagner and wife Chloe, Amanda Morgan and husband Brian, Brandon Bullard and wife Tena, Stuart Barnett, Ashley Dee, Sam Dee, Mallory Smith and husband Neal, and Nick Edwards and wife Kristina; eight great grandchildren, Julia, Jack, and Jessi Morgan, Anna and Leah Bullard, Gabriel and Noah Smith, and Ember Vincent; sister, Ila Ruano; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carol Adams; brother, Ray Barnett; and sister, Winnie Delores Barnett.
A funeral service will be held at 2 P.M., Friday, May 5, 2023 at Johnson-Moore Pottsboro Chapel, 511 W. Hwy 120, Pottsboro, Texas 75076. Family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 6 to 8 P.M. Following the service, a procession will make its way to Georgetown Cemetery, 539 Cemetery Road, Pottsboro, Texas for a committal service.
