Lee Joseph Steene was born on May 12, 1909, in Olmsted County, Minnesota. He was the son of Halvor and Ruby Alena Lee Steene.

He had two sisters: Eres and Dagna Steene.

His father, Halvor Steene died on December 6, 1919, in Rochester, Minnesota.

At an unknown date, his mother, Ruby Alena Steene remarried to Michael O'Grove.

On December 9, 1940, Lee Joseph Steene and Helena Mask Smith were married in the District of Columbia.

They had two daughters.

Memorial services will take place in the Lebanon, New Jersey, Methodist church at a time to be announced for Captain Lee Joseph Steene, senior pilot for American Air Lines and former resident of Easton, who died August 29, in Los Angeles, California.

Captain Steene, a veteran of World War II, is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helena M. Steene of Easton, and two daughters, one of Puerto Rico and the other of Easton.
