Retired pastor Dillard Roberts died Monday at the age of 76. Dillard Roberts was born February 7, 1922 on a farm between Rossville and Horton Chapel. He became a Christian in 1936 at the age of 14 and graduated from White Rock High School in 1940.

He worked in Los Angeles, California at Lockheed and at the naval yard. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served on the USS Colorado in the Pacific during World War II. He received the Purple Heart.

He married Norma Lee Brewer on April 9, 1944 and they had a son. She preceded him in death in 1981. He married Charlene Coe Meador on October 23, 1987.

The Rev. Roberts was ordained to the ministry on April 13, 1958. He pastored churches at First Baptist, Sparks, First Baptist, Wellston, First Baptist, Nash, Parkview Baptist, Cushing, First Baptist, Thomas, First Baptist, Panama, First Baptist, Creed, Colorado, Golden Acres Baptist, Shawnee and First Baptist, Tryon. He retired in August 1995.

Also preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Roberts, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney Alan and Ginny Roberts, Huntsville, Ala.; stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law, Cindy Ann and Dr. Philip Pirtle, League City, Texas; Tressie and Carl Grant, Magnolia, Texas; sister-in-law, Dora Brewer, Meeker; grandsons and their spouses, Scott Alan and Sina Roberts, Albany, Ga.; Chris and Jill Roberts, Alabaster, Ala.; stepgranddaughters, Mattie Swift, Magnolia, Texas; Katie Pirtle, League City, Texas, a great-grandson and many other relatives.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. today at Mammoth Baptist Church, Meeker, with the Rev. James Maxwell and the Rev. Joe Sinko officiating. Burial will be at Rossville Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler. Viewing will be at Parks Brothers Chapel in Meeker.
